KAISA POUTANEN

Kaisa Poutanen, research professor emerita and senior advisor at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, has extensive track record in connecting food technology and nutrition sciences. Her research has dealt with development and nutritional physiology of healthy plant based foods, focusing on bioprocessing of cereals, functionality of cereal dietary fibre and bioavailability of grain phytochemicals. Her driving force has been to add health-protective grain components in the diet through development of new sustainable cereal ingredients and food concepts using all of the grain.

She has received many awards, including Clyde H. Bailey Medal, ICC, Austria, 2017, and Osborne Medal, AACCI, USA, 2018. She is member of  Finnish Academy of Sciences and Letters and Academy of Technical Sciences, Finland. Currently she is chief advisor in Nordic Foodtech VC.
